10 Bizarre Music Videos

As many people know the visual aspect of music is certainly important to the expansion and popularity of music.  It gives the audience something to look at…to be entertained by.  Sometimes artists take a drug induced chance of visualizig their cocaine fueled song writing on outrageous videos.  A great deal of the time this works because most fans don’t care whether their favorite band is wearing triangle cardboard tuxedos or making their one-eyed friends a sock puppet on stage…they just love them!

But…then we have the ones that just go a little too out there.  Whether they put disturbing content in to put you on edge or they throw in a few really uncomfortable images to remind you that not everything is rainbows and leprechaun spit, these are just a small few music videos that I felt did the aforementioned creep tingle or just made me laugh…and then had me questioning why I did.

Ready Steady Go – Paul Oakenfold

This video with the “organic” pulsations…and faces.

Siskin River – Up

I actually really liked the video but there was something off-putting about it.

Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel

The original WTF video.

Self Control – Laura Branigan

R.I.P. Laura…you had an imagination!

Land of Confusion – Genesis

The song is amazing but…puppets!?

Elektronik Supersonik – Zlad

This video that made me laugh for an hour!

Chick Chick – Wang Rong Rollin

Another laughable one that I felt killed a few braincells.

Rubber Johnny – Aphex Twins

A whole video of NOPE!

True Faith – New Order

Love this band and song but what was up with the clowny suits?

Gay Bar – Electric Six

Gaybraham Lincoln as someone of the internet called it!

Age of the Rock Video Part 2 : Celebrities

Here we are again!  My it has been a while!  I figured since this list could go on for a while I’d roll with it.  There is never a shortage of actors who would be willing to participate in a music video since I suppose it’s a nice reprieve from long movie rolls and the exposure is spectacular!  That video with Daniel Radcliffe is infamous now!  Here are some new and old ones to give you a “That was them?” moment.

Thora Birch and Bill Paxton in Limp Bizkit – Eat You Alive

Call me surprised when I finally saw Thora Birch in something after some years and it was a Limp Bizkit video.  Imagine my further surprise when I also noticed Bill Paxton in the same video.  To start, this video looks as if filmed in Middleburg, FL (if you know this would be a hilarious fact) and second I’m a bit creeped out by the…kidnapped theme displayed here.

Daniel Radcliffe in Slow Club – Beginners

It is actually a good video once you get past the female voice coming out of Harry Potter’s mouth.

Alicia Silverstone in Aerosmith’s videos – Cryin’, Crazy, Amazing

That’s right!  Three videos!  But to top that off let’s add the other celebrities in these videos.  Stephen Dorff and Josh Holloway were in Cryin’, Liv Tyler was in Crazy and Jason London in Amazing!

Keanu Reeves in Paula Abdul – Rush, Rush

Yeah, see this one I’ve known about since it came out because it was after Bill and Ted but before Speed.  And nothing seems more out of place to tell you the truth.  Nice reference to Rebel Without A Cause though.

Bill Paxton and Judge Reinhold in Pat Benatar – Shadows of the Night

What the hell!  Well, the concept is amazing and the fact that it has Nazi and WW2 themed atmosphere is cool, but it took me a while to identify those two…or at least Bill Paxton.  And the song really doesn’t fit the theme too much but I supposed for Pat and the 80’s it just works.

Jeremy Sisto in Twisted Sister – We’re Not Gonna Take It

Everyone has seen this but this version is the extended and seriously, I would like to point out that child abuse can be more than physical.  Damn!  You really wanted to punch that dad in the nuts by the time the music started!

10 Animated Music Videos

Back in the day music videos were a fabulous form of musical expression.  Sometimes the artist saw a song in a different way than how their fans saw it.  You got your Madonna videos (Bedtime Stories) that left you in awe…while scratching your head with a butcher knife.  Sometimes, there were things that the artist really couldn’t express with actors and stage sets so they turned to the drawing board…literally.  Sometimes the end result was a sparkling few into a musician’s mind that made you second guess a face to face meeting and put the words “restraining order” into your vocabulary.  So let’s take a creepy peek into the minds of both musician and the artists that bring their dreams, nightmares, fantasies, and bondage fetishes to life.

10. Studio Killers – Ode To The Bouncer

Okay, saw this one and thought the animation was very creative…but it’s all about getting into a night club and having to “persuade” the bouncer to let you in.  And it’s a catchy song…but a weird premise and there is a skull involved…

9. Gorillaz – 19 2000

I have to add these guys in here since their whole persona is animated!  It was a brilliant concept and a damn nice “side” project if you ask me.

8.DyE – Fantasy

The phrase WTF? (only in longer less appropriate form) came out about three dozen times in this really…really fucked up video!  I mean tentacle and testicle chomping fucked up!  Go ahead…you’re old enough to not sleep anymore…or go into a pool for a little late night nookie.

7.The Dears – 22 The Death Of All The Romance

Such a sad and wasteful song.  I like teddy bears so this was a really heart wrenching video.  And then I saw the world had been cut in half and I thought to myself..”Ah the future.  What a grim and dismal place that’s going to be.”

5.Unknown Russian Song

To be honest…I have no clue what song this is!  Truly! It’s Russian…that much I got, but after that…

4.Meiko – Leave the Lights On

I just thought this was a cool song.

3.A-HA – Take On Me

A classic!  I especially liked the version Family Guy did with Chris in the grocery store and this video.  Fucking brilliant!

2.Dire Straits – Money For Nothing

One of the first computer animated videos!  This just demonstrated what everyone thought was cool in the 80’s…and how I miss all of those things!

1. Daft Punk – One More Time

I am not really that big of a Daft Punk fan but I had to throw this video in because the Japanese made a whole movie out of this album!  A whole movie!  That is the longest animated music video yet!

Bonus:  Pink Floyd’s The Wall

That’s right!  The whole movie is nothing but a huge music video but the most memorable scene was with the judge speaking with his anus…classic!

Top 10 Horror Inspired Music Videos

The sad thing is…you already know what’s going to be #1!  I feel I should inform all of you dear readers that though I love Halloween…I’m scared shitless of horror!  I hate gore (though funny when done right aka Evil Dead) it just puts a disconcerting smile on my face knowing that there are some sick fucks out there who get off on dismemberment and fecal projections that most forensic scientists step back going “Wow!  Now that is messed up!”.  Yeah it’s Hollywood, yeah I know it’s fake.  That’s not the deal.  The deal is people actually being fascinated and then lethargic at the sight of some of this stuff!  Have you seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre?  Lots of people have.  Did you know that it’s based on a real story?  Yeah.  The real story isn’t nearly as fucked up as the movie, but the fact that it was BASED ON A REAL STORY!  Get that through first then try to enjoy it!

However, I do love vintage horror movies.  I say the less you see the more disturbing it really is.  Old school horror frightened you by letting your imagination take over.  Nowadays, you don’t need an imagination, but instead an ice pick to help poke your eyes out to take the memory away.  So let’s move on the the top 10 horror inspired music videos!  These are my picks people!  Videos that both fascinated…and frightened the hell out of me!  let it be known that I’m not trying to gross you out merely show a few wonderfully creepy music videos.

10.  Forsaken – Queen of the Damned (Jonathon Davis of KORN)

When this soundtrack came out I loved it!  This was a mock music video was within the movie Queen of the Damned.  If you noticed, it’s based on the old school horror movies such as Nosferatu and has many elements of that era…mixed with a lot of bad ass and awesome!

9. Disconnected – Keane

I’m not a huge Keane fan, but I could live with this.  I thought this video was done very well and had some great elements in it.

8.Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell

The only thing this poor bastard had going for him was Michael Jackson’s background vocals! The video sounds old school horror techno? I guess if that’s how you want to take it. As you watch it you can sympathize when you’re in the shower and you feel eyes judging your junk too…I wouldn’t know…but I find that a frightening experience.

7. The Hearts Filthy Lesson – David Bowie

Wow…David.  Whoa.  Yeah.  There is nothing David could do to make me hate him so this happily won’t haunt me for too long. For 1995 this song is fantastic!

6. Fighter – Christina Aguilera

What the…?!  Not how I imagined this video to be at all! Just having this song this much out of context of the song makes it scary enough!

5. Disturbia – Rihanna

This is a cool video and a cool song.  No explanation needed. It has that awesome horror feeling of constriction and grunge! Great song!

4. Wrong – Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode can do no wrong in my eyes…oh!  Ha!  Wrong.  I made that funny. Crazy video though…damn!

3. The Kill – 30 Seconds to Mars

Based off The Shining (one of Stephen Kings better flicks by the way) the shows my awesome Jared Leto in his first hit with his band after breaking from acting. I love how this video is borderline funny because you already know how this story rolls! The animal suit…fucking genius!

2. Sweet Dreams – Marilyn Manson

What the hell man?  You want to talk about scaring the hell out of someone, put them in a room with Marilyn when he’s in role for one of his music videos.  That’ll scare the religion back in them!

1. Thriller – Michael Jackson

You knew this had to be number one!  How can I explain…I just wont.

As an added bonus, I recently found a zombie themed video by Papa Roach!

BONUS – Still Swinging by Papa Roach

Age of the Rock Video : Celebrity Guests

Show of hands…how many people miss the age of the rock video?  Unbridled, mostly pointless, filmed with a camcorder that was probably used to make a raunchy 70’s porn that involved a package of hotdogs and an inflatable pool that doubled as a hot tub when combined with straws and a gallon of bubble bath…these images might have been someone’s childhood.  But for most, it was just the 80’s.  During the age of the rock video, the world saw a level of creativity that wowed and astonished with vibrant colors and avant garde arrangements that would have put Lady Gaga to shame. (by the by, Cyndi and Madonna did it first!)

But today, we are talking about guest appearances by very memorable people.  Now almost everyone has heard of Rockwell’s one hit wonder with MJ doing background vocals…but this is beyond that!  This is chronicled, hard core evidence of a celebrity, model, or rising unknown involvement in the rock scene during the 80’s.  That is how powerful the music video was to the world at one time!

So the list begins.  Here is a list of celebrities and the music videos they were in.
