Soundtrack Throwback – Hackers (1995)

So if none of you have seen this movie I totally suggest it!  This was one of Angelina Jolie’s first movies and probably the only movie I know of so far that has an entirely techno soundtrack.  During the 90’s there was this huge surge of euro-dance, techno ultra beat music that could be looped to last the lifetime of your great aunt’s silver hairpiece which became popular on the “club” circuit.  At the forefront of this obnoxious repetitious craze was The Prodigy which has been featured in more movies than…well, I looked and it’s 24!  I’m surprised I didn’t see any Crystal Meth on this album but I think it was a year before they signed.  So recognize any other bands/groups?  Me neither!  Many of these bands are categorized as “trip-hop” and, unsurprisingly, dance trance.  Since most of these groups are Euro Dance and widely unknown in the states unless you were a serious raver on the scene most people only get their chance of listening to these bands through movie soundtracks.  Even though this movie is all about hacking, it wasn’t until the dawn of Napster when we were finally able to get a wide range of music without asking a long lost second cousin thrice removed who lives in Bulgaria for some good dance tunes.
