Soundtrack Throwback – Footloose (1984)

Really?  You honestly didn’t see this one coming?  Seriously?!  How could I not add this soundtrack on to any list?!  It’s amazing!  And this is the first one.  I’ll get to the second movie later since the soundtrack is different… but similar and the actors were upgraded, though I like the first Ariel better…she wasn’t portrayed nearly as slutty.  So, how to begin?  How about with Kenny Loggins!  That’s a great place! Kenny dominated soundtrack music throughout the 80’s with Top Gun, Caddyshack II and contributing to Live Aid and Michael Jackson’s “We Are The World” USA for Africa.  For Footloose he contributed the theme song which is played at the beginning and end of the movie.

Other artists that you might have heard are also present such as Bonnie Tyler (“Total Eclipse of the Heart”) and Sammy Hagar also known by Van Hagar.  A little Easter egg hidden in the soundtrack features Ann Wilson from Heart doing a duet with Mike Reno of Loverboy who also made a song for Top Gun!  My, how the music universe just seems to collide like a drunk frat boy against a brick wall and here it just works.  The songs are still played and loved even by the 90’s generation so they must have done something right!  A wonderful soundtrack for a unique movie!

For the special 15 year edition, you also got some awesome metal music in there.  Quiet Riot’s “Bang Your Head” which is very clearly heard as Ren pulls up to school has been added to the soundtrack…finally!
