Soundtrack Throwback – Forrest Gump (1994)

11699_146874So many things could be said for this movie and soundtrack.  I mean, if you’re a history buff than this movie either moved you or killed you.  If you have no sense of humor I hope it was the latter!  This is also the first soundtrack on the list that offers a two disc feature because the movie referenced so many time periods and atmospheres in American history.  On the down note, to have so many great artists in the list and from so many time periods the soundtrack feels rather like a greatest hits compilation rather than a soundtrack.

The movie starts in the 50’s at the “birth” of rock and roll (which, damn right there is at least one Elvis song!) and movies steadily through the 60’s and 70’s.  From my guess the time period of the film ends in the 80’s which brings about down note #2.  Where is my 80’s songs?  Well, I suppose that since most of the movie takes place in the decades before, the 80’s is an afterthought which I get.  But be consistent people!
