Soundtrack Throwback – Empire Records (1995)

empirerecordsthesoundtrackAnd the 90’s just keep racking up the tracks.  By the time this movie was released, Grunge had moved out of the garage and onto the runway making it marketable and popular…especially for movie producers.  And the best way to market a movie about a music store?  Why getting the daughter of one of the biggest bands in the world to star in it!  I would like to add that thank God Liv Tyler is a good actress!  This is also one of the earlier Renée Zellweger performances.  So a movie that takes place ENTIRELY in a music store…the soundtrack is sorely…short.  Oh!  I know why!  It’s because they have so much music to begin with that they just picked some out of a magic hat and whimsically coasted on a whim and a prayer!

Happily, I found a small list of the other songs used in the movie but not in the movie.  And personally, I would love to have heard that “Mon Amour” song that was sung by the teen dream from Grease 2, Maxwell Caulfield!  Classic!  But to the soundtracks credit, a great deal of these songs are not known to everyone so you at least get a good vibe on it.  But my question is…what happened to some of these actors and why do I have Kirsten Stewart now?!
