Soundtrack Throwback – Heavy Metal (1981)

moviealbumIf I could pick a movie that embodies the feel of sci fi animation and metal music…I seriously wouldn’t have thought of this movie directly!  I mean, even though this is a cult classic and has been praised for it’s “gritty innovations” I honestly would not concede to watch this movie through a second time.  Truth be told, it kind of gives me the hibbly jibblies.  And to me it’s odd that a science fiction/fantasy movie would have such a strange and awesome lineup on the soundtrack.

So if you don’t know, Heavy Metal is a series of animations that delve into the past, present, future and the unknown to tell a story of…”evil”?  Evil is represented by a glowing green ball that melts people.  If you want anymore than that I suggest you watch it for yourselves.  However, the soundtrack is a mix of greatness!  Some of the best and most underrated metal bands are present including…Devo? Because nothing is as hard as Devo, right?  Anyway, due to it’s intense cult following in the sci fi/fantasy genre, you can’t really escape this movie!  If only to listen to the soundtrack, the movie might be worth watching.
